A Stirring…..

I started writing this blog post like 3 weeks ago….yes, embarrassing, I know.

For the past several weeks, I have felt STUCK when it came to my vision as a photographer, as an artist.

I’d get on my computer in hopes of finishing this post…and would end up closing the window and occupying myself with other things because what I wanted to say and how I wanted to say it just wasn’t coming out right. I drafted a “It’s the new year post”…I drafted a “All my awesome pictures from last year” post…but nothing was cutting it.

But this past weekend, I went to visit some friends I had not spent time with in quite awhile. One had just had a baby and the other was savoring every minute of her life with her 8 month old. If you know me, you know where there are little humans, my camera goes with….

As I hung out with my friends and casually snapped photos here and there of their little ones…I felt the cobwebs falling away and at long last I felt it. that stirring. The stirring to create and capture the everyday in a simple, yet beautiful way…..

As I look at the photos above and I  contemplate what I see for myself and Slice of Lime this year…I keep finding myself coming back to the words “soulful” and “authentic”…I want to take pictures that STIR an emotion in me, that STIR an emotion in you, and that capture that fleeting “little something” that we all long to bottle up and hold on to for years to come.  I want to tell your story…not just the “nice-posed-picture-that-makes-it-up-on-your-wall” type of story but the story that includes all the “in-between-every-day stuff” too.  I’m really looking forward to this year (yes I am aware we are almost done with February) and getting the opportunity to shoot more of the “just hanging out” type of photo shoots that  will allow me to capture the authentic “day in the life” of your family.
