Doing creative projects just for yourself, is essential to EVERY creative. Like life-line level, need-it-like-you-need-air kinda thing…but as someone who’s ALWAYS been open about my creative journey and mental health struggles, sometimes burnout and the weight of being an entrepreneur in this day and age becomes too much and we just put all our ideas up on a shelf.
That was me…for several years. So THIS shoot was like a shot of adrenaline to my creative system because HOLY HELL did it feel like coming alive again to bring this shoot to life!
Shoots like this don’t happen without a team so gotta give so much love to several folks!
Shout out to my three models, Afia, Olive, & Paige, who are a HUUUGE part of why this shoot turned out so amazing! My sidekick, Hollis, who was the best creative partner and extra set of eyes for the day! Massive thank you to Stash Vintage in Harrisburg for collaborating with me and providing us with so many AMAZING authentic vintage pieces for the models to rock! I loved pulling pieces from the Slice Style Closet and pairing them with items from Stash, which made for the PERFECT looks.
Thank you so much to Kayla from MKUP the Beauty Studio for coming in and creating some amazing make up looks for the ladies. And last but not least, one of my OG best friends, Chrissy, who came right from teaching middle schoolers all day, to the studio the night before the shoot, where we spent HOURS upon HOURS putting together a set that was basically a hanging mobile art installation comprised of acrylic panels. Literally NEVER would’ve been able to get things set up myself because of how time intensive and time consuming plotting out the placement of all the panels was and getting everything set up.
The idea for this shoot came from the dress immediately below and the acrylic panels. As a teen and high school senior portrait photographer, of course, my inspiration comes from my clients…but also from art, fashion magazines, clothing, COLOR, and sometimes just random things like colorful pieces of acrylic!!!
All three of my models for this shoot are dancers. Love working with dancers as they tend to have higher level of body awareness and can embody a “character”. LOVE, LOVE how Afia could slay a serious look and then just exude pure JOY in the next frame!
A little shutter drag moment, made for some unique snaps. When I was playing around with my speed light, I got frustrated and declared “I got nothing good…” but boy as I pleasantly surprised when I uploaded these. Experimentation for the win!
Hand down one of my favorite images from this session of Miss Olive!!! This WILL be getting printed out as a canvas for the studio. Like come on???? This dress was from Stash and it couldn’t have been more perfect for our session!
These pants from Stash made me so sad….because they DID NOT FIT ME & honestly I just wanted to be able to buy them and rock them home to wear everyday! I loved styling them with pieces from the Slice of Lime Style closet to create the perfect playful, vintage vibes.
When planning out this shoot, I did not want to use any off-camera lighting at all. Our studio, with it’s glorious 12 warehouse style windows, lets in a ton of light and as the day goes on, it creates lot of opportunities to shoot with direct light. Which means, I can play with changing around the vibes of the images I create.
So many great photos from this session & each girl had a whole 2nd look…so look out for Part 2 from this amazing in-studio creative editorial shoot!!
