Where my band kids at?? Elena and I connected not just over the both of us being photographers, but also over both of us being band kids, band nerds, band-0s….insert your phrase of choice here.

From the time I was in 9th grade up until I “retired” from being a performer in the marching arts when I was 23, I was a color guard girl. In high school I had to balance guard with work AND the three softball teams I played on at different times of the year. But when I wasn’t at softball, Band was my life, then winter guard, then drum corps. I always had the honor of being a part of teams that competed nationally (yes, band, winter guard, and drum corps competitions are a whole entire culture unto itself and when you’re a part of competitive groups…it’s pretty dang flam demanding!) I met my husband doing drum and bugle corps and some of my best friends were made through my involvement in the marching arts over the years. So when I meet a senior with similar interests and passions in the marching arts, it’s instant connection!

On her session questionnaire, Elena noted that she wanted a location that was nature focused, that felt peaceful, with water and trees and maybe a bridge…and that’s exactly what she got! While we don’t shoot at this location too often anymore because it’s become a bit too popular and it’s quite a trek from the parking lot to the cliffs, it was THE perfect spot for Elena and I’m glad we decided to shoot somewhere that checked off all the must haves on her list.

On the regular, Elena isn’t a girl that wears make up, but she wanted to to max it out when it came to her make up for her session and OMG did she look AMAZING! She and Sara K Beauty worked together to come up with the perfect face and hair for her session.
